wood fibers

It's spring, it will soon be time to hang out in the yard after work and on weekends. Naturally any red blooded guys thoughts turn to woodworking at this time of year. I went to a local wood yard this morning and came away with a chunk of black locust wood.

Let's see how it splits out.

This is a selection of similar versions of my goal.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

I´m sure it makes a beautiful chair as you always do. I really don´t know what kind of wood it is, my online-dictionary sais it´s a grasshopper from Asia and Africa / Ulf

Ulf, yes a locust is also a type of grasshopper.
The Locust tree though is a native of north america and is a sub species of the pea family;

Yes there are so many diffferent types of wood when you live in the south and the US. Here, just below the polar cirkle, we just have birches, pines and spruces.

Which are all beautiful trees as well. What kind of wood do the Swedes use to make their "Pinnar" chairs, the birch?
