Table place mats.

Using Partners old blue workshirts and an assortment of fabric scraps I wove up 4 place mats for the dining table.
My original intention was to make 6, but I had problems keeping an even tension in that length of warp string and gave up after 4. Maybe later I'll do the other 2, I do still have the fabric strips ready for them.
The next project will be a rug using torn sheet as the warp threads. i went to the goodwill bin store where they sell old clothes by the pound. When I went to the register they weighed my cart and I had 66 pounds/ around 30 kilos of old bed sheets. That's going to be a lot of rugs;D

Thanks Ulf! Any advice from you has proven very helpful. If you don't know the English word try the Swedish one and I'll look it up.

Well here we go; it looks like you are weawing plain weaawing wish is just fine. But you can du so much more if you use other types of "binding". "Kypert" is the same as way as ordinary jeans and just by shifting how many warpthreads go under and over the weft you can make different rugs. By weawing "kypert", for example, you can get a much softer rug, or just parts of it.

I like the look of the "kypert". That would require at least 1 or 2 more heddles though, correct? I'll have to take that into consideration for a future project.

Ulf, "kypert" is what in english is called "twill" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twill
So, it would require 3 heddles.

Ulf, I stumbled across the word trasmatta/ trasmattor. There are some incredibly beautiful images of rugs woven in Sweden.
